- Released in January 2002 after 4 years of development and is the successor to ASP (Active Server Pages).
- ASP.NET 2.0 introduced "master pages" which allowed for template based web development (separating design from code).
- ASP.NET AJAX is a module that can plugin to ASP.NET and adds a number of AJAX enabled features.
- The code is compiled so runs (loads) much faster than the original ASP language.
- A webpage can be coded in VB.NET, C#, J#, Delphi.NET, Chrome and it will still work with ASP.NET - over 25 different languages are supported!.
- Some of the biggest websites use ASP.NET such as MySpace, Dell, Monster and Match.
- Currently on Version 3.5 which was released in October 2008.
- It was originally going to be called XSP with the 'X' not standing for anything in particular, but to make people curious and cause debate on what it actually stood for. The same thought process was applied to XML.
